Our vision is to create communities which relate to the needs of young people, respond to them, and support them to achieve their potential.
Our mission is to build a youth-centred community that provides meaningful service with leadership development processes that are ethical, sensitive and aware of the needs of people and their environment and fostering honesty, responsibility and potential. Youthline, as an organisation seeks to encompass five core values. These are community, a can do attitude, growth, diversity and realness.
Our five aims for youth are:
1. Young people know where to turn for help - Youthline works hard to build awareness by promoting services in schools, online and in the community. In a recent survey 80% of young people knew Youthline provided support services.
2. Young people feel okay asking for help and get help when needed - Youthline is aware of the many barriers preventing young people from seeking help, i.e.: embarrassment, consider their problems are not big enough to ask for help, think their problem will go away, worried they may not be taken seriously and cost. We strive to reassure young people that Youthline services are inclusive and available to everyone irrespective of the size of their worries.
3. Young people can help a friend through hard times - Apathy is an increasing concern amongst New Zealand youth. Youthline addresses this by providing youth development and leadership opportunities. Youthline has developed a volunteer pathway providing young people with skills to help others.
4. Young people are engaged in things that light their fire - Youthline wants to see every young person reach their full potential, by helping youth identify their passion and teaching them to utilise their talents they become positive contributors to society.
