Fences for Fido

Fences for Fido

PO Box 80282, Portland, OR, 97280, US

We began in 2009 with a simple mission to get dogs off chains by building free fenced yards. Our volunteer fence-builders have now unchained nearly 4,000 dogs in Oregon and Washington. Chaining is never a first choice for families. It's always a symptom of other struggles. Our work naturally brings us into the yards and lives of families struggling to access basic needs like veterinary care, spay/neuter, and even adequate pet food. We've expanded our mission to include emergency veterinary care, spay/neuter services, rehoming assistance, and a weekly pet food bank for Indigenous communities. In 2014, we were instrumental in changing Oregon law to limit the number of hours a dog can legally be tethered and to clarify humane standards of care.
